CHARACTER NAME; Hector
AGE; 17
CANON; Fire Emblem 7. Blazing Sword, if you'd prefer an English subtitle.
CANON POINT; During the year between when Lyn's Story ends and Eliwood's/Hector's Story begins
FAMILY TYPES; Dragon's Roar, Nature Spirits, or Virus Busters
APPEARANCE; Hector has no canon height or weight given, but his constitution score, an in-game stat that describes a character's size, is towards upper extreme. Put frankly, he's a big guy, and built to match, no surprise for someone whose favorite hobby is swinging a battleaxe around. If I had to be exact, I'd say he's about six foot and some change. His hair is short, blue, and slicked back, and his clothes are typically of high quality, but with a practical make, with decorative embellishments appearing only on his armor.
PERSONALITY; The first impression people usually get from Hector is a very strong, lasting one. The way he speaks, acts, and moves, they all make it clear what kind of person Hector is. He's loud, brash, and aggressive. He does things his own way and he doesn't give a damn what conventions he's breaking or what other people think of it. He's proud and stubborn and doesn't hesitate to throw his weight around, either physically or socially—he is younger brother and current heir to Marquess Ostia, head of the Lycian League, after all.
The second and third impressions Hector gives don't tend to be much better, either. When he's not sleeping through his classes, he's outright skipping them to go fight in the arena instead, and threatening his teachers so they won't tell his brother that he's doing it, too. He's known to go off on journeys on his own without warning, to the point where it's considered a bit odd if he's hanging around Castle Ostia for too long. He gets along better with Ostia's spies than its knights, and the way he speaks to his brother can hardly be called respectful. The introduction to his segment of the story outright declares him to be "considered odd by the populace" and to call him an unconventional noble would be vastly understating the roughness of his edges.
The fourth impression Hector gives, though, that's about when it starts turning around. Despite his vagabond reputation (a reputation he sorely dislikes), Hector actually takes his responsibilities as Ostia's prince very seriously. He maintains an active interest in political comings and goings, even regarding things that don't affect Ostia directly, and following his brother's death, he swears to carry on his dream of transforming Ostia into an egalitarian society. His fighting style is self-taught, and although his axe swings are wide and sweeping, he is always very aware of his surroundings while fighting, and his axe never hits something he doesn't intend for it to hit. He is very fond of children, and while he's usually very prickly with those around him, he is also fiercely loyal and surprisingly caring and thoughtful. He apologizes to Oswin for being such a bother to look after, talks to Lyn about how strength isn't everything, encourages Farina to rely on him for support when she needs it, expresses concerns about Eliwood's and Matthew's well-beings, reassures Serra that he believes her (highly suspect and they both know it) story about being the abandoned child of Etrurian nobles, and is pleasantly surprised when Florina works up the nerve to actually talk to him directly. When his brother falls ill, he notices and expresses his concerns without reservation, despite Uther's efforts to hide it, and he continues to worry about it, despite Oswin repeatedly reassuring him that everything is fine. And when he discovers that Uther's passed away in his absence, he—well, he's mad as all hell about it and deeply upset that it was hidden from him, but he also decides to keep it under wraps himself to keep his friends from worrying about him.
Overall, though, Hector is a very straightforward and honest person. He simply makes no attempt at censoring or trying to explain away any aspect of his personality, flaw and virtue alike. It's something of a flaw in and of itself, and it certainly makes his other flaws tend to stick out in people's minds more than his virtues.
HISTORY; Here!
SAMPLES
FIRST PERSON; (I know the app says to pick 3 questions, but Hector is... an efficient speaker, let's put it that way, so I decided to err on the side of more rather than less.)
1.) If you could make any reality at all, what would you make?
My brother often speaks of how he'd like to shape Ostia during his reign. He wishes to put an end to peerage and make our home a land where all men are equal, regardless of their birth. I suppose I'd create a world much like that.
2.) What would you say is your greatest strength?
My strength itself, of course. There's seldom few men who could face my axe and come back for more!
3.) If you were given the option to stay in the Digital World or return to your home, which would you choose? Why?
I don't like to leave a job unfinished, but once all this mess is taken care of, I'll be glad to go home to Lycia. Hmph. Do I really need a reason to want to return home?
4.) What ability would you most like to have?
...Wisdom, perhaps.
5.) You have one choice. That choice will result in either the end of the world or it will save it. Which way would you go?
What sort of mad fool would choose to doom the world without any sort of reason?
6.) What would make up your ideal friend?
THIRD PERSON;
"Lord Hector, please. This is important for you to know."
Hector rolled his eyes at the strange device his "partner" held out to him. A "D-terminal", it was called. It sounded like nonsense to him. Was the blasted thing ill? Of course it wasn't, it was just a hunk of... of something or other. A particularly dull metal? Some sort of smoothed stone? Whatever it was, it certainly wasn't alive.
And despite his partner's words, Hector doubted that it was all that useful or important, either. He understood the device was meant for communication, and he already had a good idea of how to operate it even if the principles it actually worked on were beyond him, but the idea of using something so alien to him for something as basic as talking to people rubbed him the wrong way. Tokyo Terminal may have been larger than any city he'd ever seen in Elibe, but he was confident that it wasn't so large that he couldn't track down anyone he needed to talk to in person.
Not that there were very many people he'd want to go out of his way to talk to in the first place.
Hector shrugged noncommittally. "I can use it well enough if I need to."
"Then you ought to use it more," his partner pressed. "You'll have a hard time making friends like this."
Hector was momentarily struck speechless. Making friends? That was what this lecture was about? He was well used to being scolded for his behavior, but this topic was a new one for him.
"...Fine. Hand it over."
